As we drive our automobiles, many of us, enjoy the same comfort levels that we are accustomed to at home and at work. With the simple push of a A/C button or the turn of a knob. That is, unless something goes wrong with your Auto Air Conditioning unit.
What is Air Conditioning?
Ask anybody the above question and you will probably get!
- Makes me feel cool……..
- Makes things feel cold……
- Makes me stop sweating…..
While these answers are very common, they only describe the results. When in fact, Air Conditioning is a series of process that transfers heat! It uses the process of Evaporation and condensation the accomplish this……
Evaporation: The process by which a liquid is converted into a gaseous state by absorption of heat. This process absorbs latent heat energy into a substance.
Condensation: The change in state of matter from vapor to liquid that occurs with the removal of heat(cooling). This process releases latent heat energy into the environment.
(Sounds like sweat and B.O.)
So how is this accomplished?
An A/C system must have many components to makes this happen an Air Conditioning Compressor (pump), Evaporator Core, Condenser Core, Expansion Valve (orifice tube) Receiver- drier or Accumulator and Liquid such as R-12 or 134a. So lets look at each of these components of the Automobile Air Conditioning System.
A/C System Operation:
On the low side Refrigerant (134A or R-12)/vapor is drawn into the suction port of the compressor. The compressor compresses the refrigerant raising its pressure and temperature. From there the high pressure/temperature refrigerant (134A or R-12) is passed through the condenser where air moving across the condenser draws heat out of the refrigerant (134A or R-12) causing it to change from a gas (vapor) to a liquid. Next, the liquid refrigerant (134A or R-12)is sent through some type of a restriction either a orifice tube or expansion valve turning it back into gas and the process starts all over again. During this process there must also be a device to remove moisture and provide a small storage area, this device and be on the low side or high side.
At Atlantic Car Care we are able to diagnoise and repair all parts of an Air conditioning system mentioned above and many other parts such as, the electrical items. Below are a few products and services that we preform on a regular bases:
The BG Climate Control Service extends the life and enhances the performance of systems that contribute so much to your driving enjoyment. The service also eliminates odors and controls contaminants — bacteria, mold, spores, fungi, and road grime — in the system.
The BG Frigi-Flush’r Apparatus is designed to mechanically flush the cooling system evaporator, condenser and lines with minimum time and expense. Ideal for removing mineral oil as well as any harmful particulate matter when retrofitting from R-12 to R-134a. Designed to be used with BG Frigi-Flush®II‚ Part No. 711. Compatible for use with R-134a, R-12, and R-22 systems
BG Frigi-Flush®II is a new generation cleaning fluid that is compatible with both R-12 and R-134a charged auto air conditioning systems. It will quickly and effectively remove oil and debris from auto air conditioning systems. BG Frigi-Flush®II is designed for use with BG Frigi-Flush’r Apparatus, Part No. 911.
BG Frigi-Clean Odors, bacteria, mold, spores, fungi, road grime, nicotine oils and debris accumulate in your car’s air conditioning evaporator. BG Frigi-Clean® restores heating/cooling efficiency and freshens interior air. It is a unique cleaning solution designed to quickly and effectively remove foul odors, bacteria, mold, spores, fungi, road grime, nicotine oils and debris that accumulate in your car’s air conditioning evaporator. BG Frigi-Clean® is injected directly into the evaporator case. It foams up to completely fill the evaporator core where it also blasts away bug parts, pet hair, nicotine residue.
BG Frigi-Fresh® is formulated to quickly and effectively eliminate foul, musty odors from automobile air conditioning systems. It kills mold, mildew and other odor-producing organisms that grow in the evaporator core and housing. Powerful deodorizers in BG Frigi-Fresh® keep the automobile interior smelling fresh and clean. EPA Reg. No. 44446-20-67145.
The BG Mechanical Additive Injector Tool is the perfect choice for manually adding additive to a charged air conditioning system. This quick and easy tool is designed for use without charging stations or manifold gauge sets. Two ounce (60 mL) capacity.
BG Universal Frigi-Quiet® is a revolutionary new compressor lubricant that enhances cooling, even under the harshest of conditions. Utilizing unique, ashless anti-wear technology, BG Universal Frigi-Quiet® ensures quieter, cooler compressor operation and will prolong compressor life. It is compatible with all OEM compressor types using R-12, R-22, R-134a and CO2 refrigerant systems. It is 100% compatible with Mineral Oil, PAG and Ester lubricants. Therefore, it will not void OEM compressor warranties! BG Universal Frigi-Quiet® is unyielding when exposed to moisture and oxidation. It offers vast advantages over typical Mineral, PAG and Ester oils and can be safely used in compressors requiring lubricants ranging in viscosity from ISO 46 to ISO 100.
